Silence is Golden
It all started when…
I was sitting in my sewing design lab, looking at the clock, waiting for it to be over. Don't get me wrong, I was enjoying it, it just felt like something was missing. Although I signed up for the sewing class, I didn't have much interest in fashion design. I had interest in film-making, directing and producing-- which, coincidentally, was happening next door.
I knew it as soon as I saw it in the D-Lab sign up. I wanted to make movie. I wanted to film it and I wanted to produce it, but I couldn't if I was in this sewing class. So, I worked up the courage, I talked to Lori (the advisor who was running the class) and I told her that I wanted to switch design labs. For some reason, I was expecting disappointment, but she just said "It is okay. you don't have to worry about it. I'm here to help you figure out what you want to do, and if what you want to do is another design lab, then I support you.", and I think that was the best thing any advisor has said to me this year.
So it was off to the short film d-lab. I joined it the day that we were choosing teams to make the movie with. I chose Aizlynn and Vanessa, and Serena came in the week after that because she was gone the day we picked teams.
We had three weeks to write, film and edit a short film that was no more than 15 minutes, and we had to present it in front of the entire school.

Our movie was called Silence is Golden. It was a film about a hopeless romantic chasing after a smart and pretty girl. She seemed to just be ignoring him, but there's more to the story than meets the eye. After casting the show, our male lead dropped out. Since he dropped out on such short notice, we ended up getting a girl to play the male lead, and Silence is Golden became an LGBT+ film... for about five minutes. One of the actors was fairly uncomfortable and the other was too busy to film, so we had to re-cast for the third and final time. After two weeks of filming with three different casts, we were finally able to say "that's a wrap!" and show our film to the school.
